How to handle a request for SSL certificate?

SSL certificate is responsible for data encryption and when implemented to the website, allows better positioning in Google. It also increases the credibility of your company and drastically decreases the bounce rate of your website, mostly in cases of users having security software installed on their computers, like for example BitDefender anti-virus program.

If you want to have a Brand Journal with HTTPS certificate, there are two ways of handling this: when you buy a certificate by yourself and when it is bought by Prowly. If you are not tech-savvy, we highly recommend proceeding with IT specialist, who will easily understand requirements.

A certificate is bought by you:

  1. You can either generate CSR and private key, buy an SSL certificate and validate it by yourself with a help of domain (DV), organization data (OV) or through the extended process (EV) that can last even more than a week
  2. Or ask us for generating CSR and private key, but in this case, the private key stays only on our server

If proceeded with the 1st option, you need to send a certificate & private key to us:

  1. Buy and pack your SSL certificate (+intermediate +root) with a private key into .ZIP file and secure this file with a password
  2. Send the .ZIP file to our Customer Support
  3. In the separate communication channel provide our Customer Support with the password to the .ZIP file
  4. Prowly implements an SSL certificate into your Brand Journal
  5. You receive an update from Customer Support when the process is finished

If you proceed with the 2nd option:

  1. Send us all necessary data required for generating CSR file:
    - CN - Common Name - domain address, such as yourcompanyname.com
    - O - Organization / Business Name - your company name
    - OU - Organizational Unit - your department name, such as PR, HR, Marketing
    - L - Town / City - like New York or Warsaw
    - S - Province, Region, County or State - such as California
    - C - Country, its two-character abbreviation, such as US, UK, PL
  2. Prowly generates a CSR file with provided data
  3. Prowly provides you with a CSR file
  4. You buy and send an SSL certificate (+intermediate +root) to our Customer Support
  5. Prowly implements an SSL certificate into your Brand Journal
  6. You receive an update from Customer Support when the process is finished
