Keep track of television & radio mentions and analyze the impact of your campaign across various broadcast platforms directly within Prowly!
What is broadcast monitoring?
Our Media Monitoring module now includes the exciting addition of broadcast monitoring, allowing you to keep track of mentions related to your campaign on media. You can access multimedia files (video and audio) directly in Prowly alongside their transcripts.
Broadcast monitoring enables you to track mentions from television and radio sources. When setting up your subscription, you can select the country coverage you prefer, including the United States, Canada, United States + Canada, United Kingdom, or Global.

Building a query for broadcast mentions
Once you add broadcast monitoring to your subscription, you can start monitoring mentions from television and radio sources.
Keep in mind that it's not possible to add broadcast sources to an existing query; you need to create a new query.
Go to the Monitoring module, open a project, click "Create new search query", and choose the query type (brand, competitor, keyword, person or backlink). You will then be redirected to the query builder. Insert the keyword you're looking for and mark the broadcast sources:
You can add more settings to your search in the "Main filters" tab under the query. One interesting thing about broadcast sources is that you can change the "Date range" filter up to 90 days!
Broadcast monitoring provides 90 days of historical mentions; however, all the historical mentions older than 30 days won’t have video and audio, so you will only get a transcript. All newer mentions will have video, audio, and transcripts.
Browsing broadcast mentions
Once you have created a query, you can see the results in the mention browser. Each broadcast mention contains useful information, including the channel name, the program name, the date and time of airing, a preview of the transcript, the source type (radio/TV) and its sentiment.
Additionally, the mention includes the following properties (marked on the screenshot from the left side):
- whether the clipping is from a global or local programme (only applicable to US television sources),
- value of coverage based on the advertising cost of a 30-second spot in a given market,
- estimated reach, which is an estimate of how many times this content was viewed by unique users,
- country.
Broadcast filters
Filters specifically designed for broadcast mentions can be found on the left side of the mention browser.
These include:
- Television scope - indicates whether the mention is on a national or local level (exclusive to US clippings from the television source).
- Television type of clip - filter whether the mention aired for the first time (premiere) or was a repeat, live, taped, or new.
- Saved mention - filter whether the mention is saved or not. After 30 days, saved mentions keep the multimedia files (audio and videos), while unsaved mentions only retain the transcript.
Multimedia clippings
To access the transcript and video/audio files, click the mention. A window will then appear, displaying all the details.
We do not store complete programs, so only a relevant snippet of the transcript and multimedia file is accessible, showcasing the keyword you are searching for. If the keyword appears multiple times in one program, it will be consolidated into one mention if used within a short timeframe. However, if the keyword is spread across different program segments, we will provide multiple mentions accordingly.
You cannot publish and download the multimedia files as this content is licensed. Media monitoring only lets you view the clippings for internal purposes and analytics; it is not licensed for public availability. However, you can share the transcripts freely.
Saving clippings
If you wish to retain the multimedia (video/audio) in a mention, you need to save it. Unsaved mentions will only retain transcripts after 30 days and accessing multimedia will no longer be possible.
To save a mention, open it and click the "Save" button in the right-upper corner.
If you want to see all your saved mentions in one place, use the "Saved mention" filter.
Sharing multimedia clips
Prowly allows you to share broadcast mentions internally with your coworkers, stakeholders or clients who may not have access to our application. To do so, open a given mention, choose the "Share" button and copy the link.
All broadcast multimedia content is copyrighted and cannot be shared externally (e.g. on social media). It is for internal use only!
Dashboard and reports
Metrics dedicated to broadcast mentions have also been added to our Media Monitoring Dashboards and PR Reports.
Navigate to Monitoring, open a dashboard related to the query and check the newly added metrics. These metrics contain top broadcast clips sorted by estimated reach (they can also be sorted by publicity value when creating a widget), broadcast sentiment, and publicity value (the value of coverage based on the advertising cost of a 30-second spot in a given market). Publicity value is not available for historical records.
Furthermore, you can also add broadcast mentions as coverage to PR reports. You won’t be able to play the clipping in the report, but you can see the transcript.
We have also added broadcast pieces of coverage metric, which you can use to add the number of broadcast pieces to your report.
